Skiing in Cortina, Dolomites

Skiing at Ra Valles
Accessible via "Freccia del Cielo" Cablecar, the area is equipped with three chairlifts and connected through a black slope, Forcella Rossa, to the Tofane skiing area. The east-facing slopes are of average difficulty and are surrounded by an imposing, spectacular environment with wonderful views over the Cortina valley below and the encircling massifs above and around. Since the altitudes of the slopes range from 2850m to 2200m of height, snow conditions are excellent till late spring (in 2001, for a short period of time, skiing was possible even in July).

Skiing at Tofana area
Splendid, red and black demanding slopes, such as the legendary Canalone, the Vertigine Bianca or the Olimpia, where the Women's World Cup downhill race takes place every year.Afternoon shadows come early except for the upper part, where the sun remains above the horizon till late.

Skiing at Socrepes, Lacedel, Pocol
This area lies at the foot of the Tofane group; its ski-slopes, all easy and particularly suitable to children and beginners, are the perfect site for the very first ski lessons. The area is connected to the other pistes of the Tofane.

Skiing at Faloria
In just a couple of minutes the modern Faloria cable car transports you up to 2134m.Once on the summit simply choose from one of the 30 km of perfectly groomed pistes, the pride and joy of our skiing area. The Vitelli four-man chairlift takes you to the top of numerous fantastic descents. The Faloria pistes are reached either by Faloria cable car, which starts in the center of Cortina, or from the village Rio Gere, located 7km from Cortina center. Ample parking facilities are available here.Rio Gere can also be reached by skibus.And... at Rio Gere the Faloria pistes are linked to the Cristallo area. From Winter Season 2004/2005 the way to Faloria pistes from Rio Gere is more comfortable and faster, thanks to the new four-men chairlift "Pian de ra Bigontina".
The Faloria cable car was built in 1939. At the time the only lift at Cortina was the Cortina-Belvedere to Pocol. Although this no longer exists, it nevertheless shrunk in comparison to the 900m Funivia Faloria. The construction of the cable car, also known as the “Prince of Piemonte”, was hailed as a great technological feat. The new cable car represented a revolution for skiing in Cortina. All of a sudden a vast skiing area at 2100m became easily accessible to thousands of skiers!Three stations were constructed- the valley station at 1230m, located next to the bus station (at the time train station)- the half-way station at Mandres, 1500 m- the top station at Faloria a 2120 mThe original cable car has been modernised and the current top station is not the original – the remains of this can be seen when walking along the Faloria path.

Falzarego
The Cinque Torri - Averau area is certainly the best in Cortina for skiing. The northern exposure of some runs offers excellent snow conditions throughout the winter and the new snowmaking facilities guarantee a perfect snowcover even when snowfalls are poor. The southern slopes as well , descending from Rifugio Averau to Rifugio Fedare and the Giau Pass, are excellent for skiing.
The ski-runs in the Cinque Torri area extend over two opposite slopes. The north-facing one counts a larger number of tracks connecting Rifugio Averau to Bai de Dones; whereas, there is only one run on the south-facing slope from Forcella Nuvolau to Rifugio Fedare in the Giau Pass area. All the slopes, ranging from easy to intermediate ratings, are highly rewarding for the beauty of the landscape. The favourable exposure of north-facing slopes guarantees
The Cinque Torri lie within the Dolomiti Superski area, and convenient connections to the nearby areas are provided.
The area can be reached skiing from the Falzarego Pass along a connection trail; while a very frequent skibus service provides transportation back to the Pass. The same skibus service, in the opposite direction, leads to the Pocol-Tofana area and Cortina lifts.
